GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN: Recognition for the Quebec Forest Industry Council

At the gala of the 7th edition of the GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN awards held at Montreal’s Place des Arts last Wednesday evening, the TUXEDO agency won the PRIX TERRASSE (Patio prize) in the Public, institutional and health building category for the patio designed and produced within the framework of the Festival Mode & Design de Montréal, in collaboration with the Quebec Forest Industry Council.

The jury was swept off its feet by the originality of the design approach and the installation of the finished structure. This award thus recognized the quality of the wood “showcase” that was made available to us as a result of our collaboration with the Festival Mode & Design de Montréal. It also demonstrated the relevance and potential of an initially surprising alliance of two diverging industries – i.e., fashion and wood. Beyond the question of recognition by our peers, we are simply delighted with the remarkable way with which building professionals, developers, architecture and engineering firms, as well as designers adopted wood as a material in their design process. We couldn’t have hoped for a better showcasing opportunity!

It’s also worth noting that at the GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN gala, cecobois awarded three “Valorisation bois” (wood use) prizes, including the Universal access and sustainable development prize, awarded to the Discovery Centre of the Parc national du Mont Tremblant (by Smith Vigeant architectes), the Wood use/interior design – institutional prize, awarded to the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium (by the firm Cardin Ramirez Julien +AEdifica), and finally the Wood use/product design prize, awarded to the designer of the Sleigh Bench (by Six Point Un). http://www.prixdudesign.com/laureates/2013/index.php
